On software that pays attention
Most software waits to be told. It sits still until you reach for it, does exactly the thing, and goes quiet again. That is safe, and a little lifeless.
We are interested in the other posture: software that keeps a low, steady attention on your work and acts on its own when it is sure — and, just as important, knows when not to. Attention is a material. Used well it feels like care. Used badly it feels like surveillance. The whole craft is in the difference.
