Marketing Specialist
We are looking for a marketer who can carry a quiet, confident voice — and resist the urge to make it louder.
about the role
animiste does not do startup marketing. No growth-hack funnels, no exclamation marks, no eager launch theatre. The work is editorial: a research journal that happens to ship products. Your job is to make that legible to the people who would care, and to no one else.
You would own the outward voice of the lab and of Numa — the index, the Dispatch, the rare announcement — and keep all of it in register.
responsibilities
- Own the Dispatch (our newsletter) end to end — writing, editing, sending, growing it honestly.
- Shape how releases and notes are framed so they read as the lab, not as a campaign.
- Steward the social presence (Instagram, X) with restraint — quality over cadence.
- Find the handful of audiences who genuinely fit, and reach them precisely.
- Measure what matters (resonance, retention) and ignore vanity numbers out loud.
you may be a good fit if you
- Write well enough that people forward it — and edit well enough to cut your own best line.
- Have run marketing or comms for a design-led, editorial, or culture brand.
- Understand that confidence is shown through restraint, never volume.
- Can work independently and remotely without losing the thread.
some strong candidates may also
- Have a background in publishing, criticism, or editorial rather than performance marketing.
- Have grown a small audience that is unusually loyal.
how the lab works
We are small and designer-led. There is no funnel of approvals — the person doing the work owns the decision, and writes down what they learned. We measure ourselves by the odd questions we manage to answer well, not by headcount or velocity.
Work is done in the open inside the studio: every attempt becomes an entry in the index, signed and dated. You will be expected to write — clearly, in plain language — about what you tried and why.
logistics
The studio is the anchor. Remote roles are genuinely remote; hybrid roles expect a few days a quarter in the studio for the work that only happens in a room together. We sponsor visas where we can and will say so plainly if we can't for a given role.
Compensation is a band, not a negotiation theatre — we tell you the band up front and place you in it honestly.
how to apply
Write to [email protected] with the role code in the subject line. Send a CV or portfolio — whatever best shows the work you are proud of — and a few sentences on why animiste, specifically. We read every one. No cover-letter theatre; tell us something true.
